The original site of the rotten ply sides

removal of the outer sheathing reveals some very damp plywood

again with the seathing off the ply has just fallen apart

Here we have removed the outer ply completely to reveal the frames, the bulkhead can be seen to be completely rotten where it was in contact with the hull. The deck aft has also been removed as this had failed due to water getting between sheathing and ply.

Snowdrift Portside

The port side of the hull across the same bulkhead was no different, the frame, stringers and hull skin were all rotten where the water had tracked down from the hand rail base area. Even the old gas locker base was rotten along with anything else that was within 200mm of that frame.

Port side aft totally removed as damage was identical to starboard side.

hull and side decks now replaced with new deck beams in place, transom is next

Sheathing removed

Sheathing removed

Below the waterline the hull sheathing on the keel had become loose, this has now been taken back to the join and will be replaced on both port and starboard sides.

Hull below the waterline re-sheathed and primed ready for the anti foul, boot top marked and panted in.

I am sure the owner would not mind me showing you what happens when you remove paint and sheathing from one side of the rudder and then leave it lying around to dry out.
